97 Expedition Rough Idle
I have a 97 Expedition with 225K that has developed a rough idle and wants to die when idling. I read two codes: P0171 and P0174 which indicate Bank 1&2 lean. My first thought was a vaccum leak but could not pinpoint anything. Several years ago I had a similar problem and replacing the Idle Air Control Valve fixed it, so I replaced it again. It seamed to help some but didn't fix the entire problem. I cleaned the Mass Air Flow sensor but that did not help. After reading comments about all of the vaccum hoses and the fitting at the back of the intake right below the Idle Air Control Valve, I looked one more time to find it and found a rotted hole in the 90 degree boot plugged onto the intake. As mentioned in several comments, you cannot see it; so I used a round inspection mirror and looked right below the Idle Air Control Valve at the top/back of the engine on the passengers side and saw a hole in the boot before I even pulled it off. Just wanted to say Thanks.
