99 expedition stopped running while driving, now won't start

Stopped running while on the way home Friday twice......first time restarted, second time won't even turn over. Battery cables get extremely hot while trying to start. New battery, and alternator in July. Any ideas?

Thanks.

If jump starting didn't work, I'd check all the connections, power and ground. The starter will also heat the cables if it's shorted inside.

i was thinking starter, but would that cause it to die while driving? And all connections are good

I can't guess what to check on the stalling. Did ti just suddenly die or surge or something like that?

After it's started, you'll have to see what happens. Engines locked up for some reason will do the same. You could try to turn it over manually.

it did not surge, it died twice, was able to restart it once, even though it acted like it didn't want to start, it did, but not the second time, doesn't even want to turn over, just clicks and the cables get hot. Power works fine though.

I'm with rtg143 on this. Check that all connections are clean and tight. Battery>solenoid>starter. Also, check condition of wires under the insulation. Check that engine is not siezed. All this has been suggested by rtg143. If all this passes, pull the starter and bench test it before replacing. (hold on tight)
