Lightbulb A/c Eatc

Hello:

I have a problem with my Air Conditioner. The EATC (electronic automatic temperature control) wants to blow hot air all the time. I have checked the freeon and I have also checked the vacuum lines (which open and closed the blend door as well as the defrost, vent and floor vents). Everything is working well. I actually have cold air, but only at selected times.....keep reading you will understand.

If.... I use the onboard computer diagnostic, which is done by pressing the OFF button and FLOOR button at the same time, then pressing the AUTOMATIC button within 2 seconds, the unit resets itself, DOES NOT spit any codes on the display (like it says it should in the manual --Hayes). After I do that I will have cold air for a small amount of time before I have to do this process over again. I believe that I may have a problem with the blend door switch (if there is such a thing).

I took it to a mechanic and he put in a new EATC...it did not correct the problem, but he never reset the unit either. he put the old EATC in the Expedition (1999) and I was on my way.

Can anyone assist me on this?

By the bye.....all the harnesses in the back are secure.

Re: A/c Eatc

I am assuming that when you put it on max AC you are getting cold air.

With this assumption....

It sound like your heater blend door is not working correctly. It was somewhat common on mid to late '90s Expo's. If I remember correctly from the TSB, Ford inadvertantly got some of the doors switched...meaning....some of the EATC doors wound up in the manual systems and vice versa. Eventually it will lead to the door cracking which will cause it to function sporadically or to stop functioning altogether. Sometimes it gets stuck in all heat or all cool. It depends on what mode you were in when it broke.

This is not a cheap repair either, since most of the dash has to come out to get to the door

You have described my problem to the T. What can I do to fix it?

Re: A/c Eatc

Personally I would take it to a dealer. This is not an easy fix. It is not a cheap fix either due to the dash having to be disassembled and taken out. You can expect atleast at minimum an $800 bill. If you are still under warranty then I would persue it under that. If you are not then I hope you got an extended warranty.

I personally do not know how to fix this. I have seen the problem. Sorry that I am not of any help for a DIY technique.

Re: A/c Eatc

This just happened to my 98EB. you're say I should take it to the dealer. How about doing it yourself?
