I just purchased a `99 Expedition, 5.4, 4x4 with 67,000 miles on it. Over the weekend the a/c clutch/compressor started making a noise. It only makes the noise when the clutch is engaged and only when the motor is at idle. If you rev the motor it stops. Any suggestions? Can you replace just the clutch or do you have to replace the whole compressor? Bearings? Thanks!

I have a 97 expedition with 103, 000 miles and I had the same problem, the clutch plate on the ac compressor started to shake. I took it the mechanic (I am currently stationed in Germany, and have no mechanical skills) He told me just to order the clutch plate and that it would be all I needed and I could still drive it. Long story short the clutch finally went out and took the pulley and coil with it. So if you caught it early it should just be the clutch.
