can not get into 4x4 low 2008 Navigator

My 2008 Navigator has electronic switch bottons for the drive train selection "4x2", 4x4 Auto and "4x4". How can I get this truck into low range 4x4? I called Ford and they told me that the computer will select it. I am pulling my boat out of the water on a very steep and slippery ramp and low range is the best. I miss my 2001 Expedition 4x4!

Re: can not get into 4x4 low 2008 Navigator

If you don't have a "4x4 LO lock" button then you don't have low range. Some newer part time systems only have AWD, 2wd, 4wd High Lock. If there isn't a low range specified in the owners manual then you're outta luck there. I always thought that the Nav came with a low range...but perhaps that was the 2003 era Navs.

The computer obviously can't select low range if it isn't there. I know the newer Durango is AWD only, with no low range. Perhaps Lincoln decided no one buys a full size lux SUV and uses low range - such a shame.

Re: can not get into 4x4 low 2008 Navigator

what you could try is put it into 4x4 (not auto), put into "neutral" and turn off the traction control. The info display should show 4x4 low.

good luck.

That's too bizarre. Every 4x4 I've owned was easily marked with 4H and 4LO range. Before it would allow you to go into 4LO, you had to have the transmission in neutral. Perhaps the dealer you go to is aptly named "Wizard Ford"!
