confused Disconnect battery and now Expy runs 3sec

Hello All,
I am new here. Found you all because I was searching for a solution to my Expy not staying on.
I did a search of the forum and didn't find excatly the answer I need.
So here goes.

The other day the 97 XLT 4.6lit Expy Engine light came on and the suv was running rough. Went to Autozone and they read the code:"Cylinder #4 miss fired" So I found that the spark plug wire for #4 was bad so I replaced it and the suv ran great.

Want to remove the code so the engine light would go off. I disconnected the battery for about 15min. Now when I start the suv it starts right up and runs for 2-3 seconds and shuts off. If I try to start again the engine just turns over but will not start again until I turn the key to the off position first the the engine start for 2-3 seconds.

Has anyone seen this before and could point me the way to fixing this.
I called a local Ford dealer and all they said was you need to bring it in.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Disconnect battery and now Expy runs 3sec

Hello All,
Just got back from the Ford dealer and here is what they found:

The wire harness to the security module was not connected.

Funny thing I never went under the dash.

We have owned this Expy for 3.5 years and it has never been connected.
I can say that because now we have a "Theft" light on the dash panel right below the 3 on the tac that lights up red when the security system is tripped.

Who knows why the truck was working for so long. Maybe something to do with the battery being disconnected.

It cost me $118 for the labor and no parts needed.
