I have a 2003 Lincoln Navigator with the 5.4 DOHC engine.
After about 180K miles it has developed a rod know so I am hiving the engine rebuilt. One machine shop tells me that the Cam phasers always need to be replaced on the 5.4 DOHCs. Another shop tells me that only the 3V 5.4s have the problem, so they do not replace them.
Who should I believe?

Yes but the ones with the most problems are the 2004 and up. Since it's being overhauled, why not do them too.

I guess I phrased that poorly.
What I meant was:
Are you saying that even the 2003 5.4 DOHC (in my Navigator) does not have cam phasers?

That is correct. No cam phasers in your Navigator.
