Door Rattles on 2003 Expedition - Ford Forums

I have a 2003 Expedition that we purchased in July. Up until recently I never had the opportunity of driving the vehicle when it was cold outside. I live in California and by the time I would leave for work the temperature was already in the upper 70's and when I left it was usually around 90. Recently I changed my shift so that I have to leave the house at 5:45 am in the morning. I've begun noticing a very annoying rattling soung coming over from what seems like the passenger side door. It starts from the moment I leave the house until I park the car at work. What is odd, though, is that the noise isn't there when I leave to go home at 3:30 pm. I take the same route to and from work. Whatever it is, it rattles when the exterior of the vehicle is cold, but goes away when the exterior of the vehicle is warm/hot...any ideas?

Does it sound lkie its coming from the wndow. Maybe the window is loose

well i have never heard that one before but things do shrink and become stiff in cooler temps.
usually it is a cause of creaks and snaps in the dash.
does the door latch right when it is cooler, try pushing in on the door when it is cool and then again when it is warm and see if it latches the same.
it has to be something simple as it is only effected by temp.

but it could be a coincidink because ive heard of expeditions especially 03s having door rattles. i'll try to find a post i read

Could the rattle possibly be coming from the plastic panel on the outside bottom of the door? If that is loose it will certainly sound like its coming from inside. I was talking to my dealer about one of mine being loose in my brand new 04' and he said they are having a huge problem with those panels. They expand and contract constantly and eventually start to become loose. They are only held in by plastic push pin things.

Have the dealer check the rubber trim around the door. I have a 2004 XLT that I purchased in February. A week after I bought it, I began hearing this cracking sound coming from the driver's side window. I thought it was the window but it turned out to be the rubber trim around the door was dry. The dealer took about 5-10 minutes to lubricrate the trim with a dielectric grease. Problem solved....
