Electrical Problems - Intermittent Short
2000 Ford Expedition, 5.4L, Automatic, 100k miles
Hey all -- I did something stupid yesterday while changing my ignition coils...i accidentally grounded the hot post on the starter solenoid (attached to the firewall)...sparks flew and then when i attempted to start the car again...nothing happened. The dome lights are fine, the warning buzzer is normal when the key is inserted, but when i turn the ignition to the "ON" position, the gauges bounce off their limits, and the dashboard warning indicator lights cycle on and off every few seconds. I hear a lot of solenoid clicking in the engine compartment too. When I turn the key to the 'START' position, click...the starter solenoid clicks, but nothing happens and the dash lights go out...seeming like there is a short somewhere. The egnine doesn't even turn over.
I replaced the starter solenoid, and had my battery checked...battery is ok. Any other ideas on what to troubleshoot next? Thanks a million!
Dave
