Engine ID for Econoline 350 5.4L engine

I did not see a forum for Econoline vans, this was the closest I could come. The VIN is located on a metallic strip on top of the dashboard on the driver side. As with all American cars, I believe, there is no separate engine ID number. I have some reason to believe that my engine may have been swapped out and replaced with a (likely) much poorer quality engine. A mechanic commented that I have a 2005 engine although the model year of the van is 2000. Can anyone tell me how I might determine whether or not this is true? All my ownership papers reflect a VIN only and no separate engine ID.

Re: Engine ID for Econoline 350 5.4L engine

That's the fun of buying used. There are no seperate engine ID numbers required except for the ID on the side of the block. You should be able to get your original engine number from your VIN if you phone it in to Ford's head office. I imagine they should be able to tell you what your engine serial number was...and you can match it with the engine you have in there now. That's what I'd do anyway.

Thanks, 360ci. I'll give it a try.
