Re: Expedition gas mileage

I've had a '99, '01 and '04 Expedition, all 4WD, all with trailer tow package.
The '99 got about 16 to 17 mpg on the highway, 13 to 15 around town. the '01 was about the same. I just came back from a vacation in Colorado in the 2004 Expedition and got 18 mpg on the trip, including Interstate highway runs from Gallup to Flagstaff and then to Phoenix at the posted 70 mph speed limits . All these vehicles were/are totally stock. I think the '99 and '01 got worse gas mileage because they were *always* in AWD mode and I drove faster :-) Thus summer I was more cost conscious and kept my foot off the throttle.

Re: Expedition gas mileage

My 98 gets 17hwy and 15city. I heep the thing tuned, change the oil, run synthetic, keep the tires aired up, use fuel additive, keep the 3rd row seat out and keep my foot off the gas. It has a 4.6l and 199,500 miles on it. These vehicles are gas hogs but with the right maintenance and care it will keep getting the gas mileage you want. I have a tornado fuel saver and K&N Air in it too. When towing a trailer with a load it goes down to about 16/14 or 15/13.

No check engine lights are on and it runs like a champ. Any suggestions or ideas? Thank you. OOPs....It has a 5.4 Tritan V8

In all honesty, I simply added a K&N filter (filter only - not the kit) and noticed a 1 - 2 mpg improvement. The engine is a little louder - you can acutually hear the engine sucking in the air.

After awhile, I installed a full K&N air intake system. Felt immediate performace gain, and a great engine growl during hard acceleration. Gas mileage dropped - cuase it's alot more fun to drive with the added power.
