I was going to have my dealer order a remote start kit for an '05 Expedition. He is confused as to which one to order. I was wanting the remote start that uses the same key fob to operate the doors and start the vehicle. I'm unsure of the differences between the different levels involved with these systems.

The dealer is not sure if the remote start can be ordered without the alarm system in order to get all the functions on one key fob.

Just got an '04 Expedition EB a couple of weeks ago and had the dealer install the remote start. It's a Ford accessory product. It comes with 2 new key fobs that also control the doors, so all functions are on one key fob. I did not get the alarm, just the remote start, although you can always add the alarm to the system later if you wish to upgrade.

Great feature to have and works flawlessly. Hope this helps.

Hey guys. I work for Factory Motor Parts here in Kansas City and am an installer for the Ford Accessory Division. I install about 6 remote start/alarms a day. In the winter season I do as many as 10 to 15. I am an ex DEI/Viper technition and have been installing car audio/video/security professionaly around the Kansas City area for 15 years.

There are many ford units available.

RKE (100K) - Standard Keyless Entry System
VSS (400K) - Add on Alarm for vehicles with keyless
RKE/VSS (600K) - Keyless Entry/Alarm for vehicles without keyless

RMT (bronze) - Add on Remote Start System for vehicles with keyless
RMT/RKE (silver) - Remote Start w/ keyless
RMT/RKE/VSS (gold) - Remote Start/Keyless/Alarm

We install the gold system for $349.74 and they drop from there on the other models.

The remote starts can do many things such as turn your headlights on, rear defrost on, remember your seat position, turn on heated seats, motorize the running boards on navigator, open the lift gate and the rear window, and much more.

The new units are modular now where basically the brain module can be popped out of the main unit and swapped out for a higher or lower unit.

Thanks for all the replies. My Expy will arrive at the dealer in a few days. They have the "Silver - Remote Start w/ Keyless" ordered. Hopfully the install will go well as my "small town dealer" has not installed very many remote start kits.

I plan on installing an after market remote start, alarm, door unit in the "new" 1998 Expedition that I have just purchased. The unit is a "Bull-Dog" RS-602E unit which has a claimed reception range of 1000 ft. The unit that I had purchased 5 years ago also has a RF cabin sensor, and bump sensor, and alarm. They seem to be pretty reliable, and have many options, but are best used separately from the OEM device in the unit.

DirtyDoggT, I'm hoping you can help me. I have a 97' expedition 4.6L that about every 6 months will not read the chip in the key. As you know this prevents me from going anywhere and I'm stuck with a towing bill. I've had the modules replaced numerous times and would like to bypass the PATS system. Will a remote starter do this? If so which one do you recommend? Any suggestions you have are greatly appreciated.
