Expedition won't accelerate

2003 expedition168000 miles

This problem has happened 4 times. Each time has the same symptoms. Start up drive a very short distance. Get to around 15 mph. Engine goes to an idle for 20 seconds or so. Then I hear a pop and car starts to accelerate like nothing was wrong. No check engine light or any other lights.

Will there be a code if the check engine light is not on.

Any advice would help. Thanks

Re: Expedition won't accelerate

Low coolant perhaps? Generally a check engine light will go on for that.

Clinken, if you have a rubber mallet, you can do what Logan mentioned. Lightly tap the cat converter and if you hear a rattling noise, the cat is toast, and is undoubtedly the culprit.

Re: Expedition won't accelerate

I had this happen a few time with mine and then it'd backfire. My o2s ended up being bad.
