2001 Expy - Surges every few months. Have no pattern. It can be driven for a long time then surges or short distances and surges. Will surge when foot on brake also. Has been to the dealer, but as we all know they must witness the surge. VERY UNSAFE - HELP - I have been on the TSB and have seen other that have the problems -
My 2001 Expy also surges periodically. . there is no regularity to it either, so it cannot be diagnosed by a mechanic yet. Let me know if you find out the reason for this problem

I have the same problem with my 2001 AWD Expedition with 165K miles. Twice in the last three months while stopped at a light with my foot on the brake, the truck surged forward. It scared me as I thought my foot might have touched the gas pedal but it was firmly on the brake. I'm glad it wasn't all in my head but I sure would like an answer!
What you guys might be feeling is the operation of the a/c compressor clutch coming on and cycling to much. Meaning the freon in the system is low. How well does the a/c work? When the clutch is turn on the trucks computer compensates for the the load on the engine and increases the the idle speed. you don't feel it while or driving but at a stop light the idle will surge.
Mine just "surged" today for the first time at the light. Up and Down RPM's when stopped and in park. Lights also dim up and down when idling Any ideas? Vacuum leak? Thanks.

It ocured when Im coming to a stop and stop it will start to surge and buck like it wants to go even though you are on the brakes. Does anyone have or had this issue before? Truck roughly has 65k on it now.
