Re: Ford Expedition engine miss

When coilpacks go bad, it is not usually the entire coilpack but only the rubber boot portion and spring that carries the high voltage to the plug. They can be purchased at JC Whitney for about $4 each. Sure beats replacing the coilpacks for $80 each. This is the same problem that the older cars had when the wires got old and wet. You replaced the wires, not the coil.

Re: Ford Expedition engine miss

I've been having the same problem over and over first misfire in 6, I said fine, i changed all sparkplugs, samething, finally my dad helped change one injector that broke and that he though it was the wrong one, same thing again, I went to Autozone and said that a missfire was found on 4, so I went and bought another injector, same thing happened. So what I did yesterday is to change the coil from 4 to 1, CHECK ENGINE came up took it to autozone again and they just told me that found a miss fire on piston 1, guess what it's the coil. So I went and bought the coil for 65 bucks at autozone. Tomorrow I will see what happens.

Re: Ford Expedition engine miss

Ive got a 2005 Navigator with the 5.4 3v engine, and ive changed all my plugs, but I get a miss fire every now and again and its seems to be when I am accelerating up a hill on the motorway at a round 70mph. Also seems to be worse when its raining or really damp outside.

Ive now bought a CAN scanner to see if a code flashes up to tell me what the problem is, but it shows as no codes being stores, and no miss fires recorded.

But whats weird it isnt constant I go weeks without a problem, then it starts again. Ive change all my plugs in the last 10,000 miles to the champion plugs and I keep up regular services so im sure it isnt plugs or anything internal.

But from reading all the posts and other posts on a few other forums I think the problem may be one of the coils. And to be safe as I live in the UK and parts take forever to reach me from the US, ive just got myself a full set of the accel super coils.

Should have these on in the next few days so will post up and let people know if its solved it, as from reading this it seems to be a pretty common fault on the Ford engines for these vehicles.

Re: Ford Expedition engine miss

Took a while but I changed all my coils and its runs really nice now, except when its really damp.

When its damp its seems to run really rough for about 5 mins until the engine warms up then its fine, its like it only firing on 7 cylinders but my CAN scanner doesnt show a missfire.

Back to the drawing board

Re: Ford Expedition engine miss

Have the coils stress tested my 01 Expedition had the same problem and was found to have 3 bad coils. about $45 each. if you are doing them yourself change the plugs while the coils are out.

Re: Ford Expedition engine miss

Hello
i had the same issue, I changed both coils plugs and wires and got no results. I had the fuel injectors flushed and the miss is gone. If the injectors are real bad you should replace them.
hope this helps
