My '01 AWD is making grinding noises on the left front, pretty sure it' s a bad axle. Wondering if anyone has a good link on how to replace it?

I had the same problem on an F-150. Most likely the half shafts are bad. You will have to remove the spindle and steering knuckle by removing the ball joints. Don't forget to remove the center bolt in the middle of the brake rotor. Once those are out, take the 6 bolts out of the half shaft that connect it to the front diff. The part should run around $100. Replace it ASAP, or else the bearings in the shaft will seize and you will lose steering.

Sounds like a wheel bearing to me.
