Head Gasket - Oil Leak

I have a 2003 Eddie Bauer Expedition, I noticed some oil on the garage floor. Took it to my mechanic, he says the head gasket is leaking and will cost approx $1000. Ford garage says closer to 2,000!

It's hard to beleive a vehicle this new needs this type of repair. I trust my mechanic but are frustrated on the reliability of thie vehicle. I've alread spent $400 on the rear accuator.

Re: Head Gasket - Oil Leak

Hate to be a smarty pants, but who ever said that the Expedition was a reliable vehicle?

Re: your oil leak. I'd get a second opinion. A leaking valve cover gasket is far more likely than a head gasket. Best way to diagnose this is to clean the engine, add a dye to the oil, drive if for a few days and then use a black light to see where the oil is coming from. Much better than guessing.
