Question Help replacing 8" subwoofer

I have a 97 Eddie Bauer Expedition that when I bought it last July, had a blown sub. I'm just now getting around to replace it and am having trouble. Of course I've got the cover off and took out all the screws, but it seems that the sub is still locked in place somehow. It's like either there is some sort of locking ring or something connected to the back end of the magnet. All I can do is spin it around. Any ideas how to get it out?

Re: Help replacing 8" subwoofer

you will have to take the whole panel off the plastic that the speaker sits in is a whole piece so u cant just take out the speaker without damaging something

Re: Help replacing 8" subwoofer

I just replaced mine on my 98 eddie bauer, it was a pain, but pretty much all of the plastic has to come out of the back, I found it easier to take out the rear seat belts too, master torx bit set helps on this one, Then there is bolt that Ford decided they needed to put on the backside of the black speaker box that your subwoofer is in, This has to be removed so subwoofer can be replaced, otherwise it will spin all day long! Great design Ford!!!, I went with an 8 inch replacement MTX from Crutchfield, sounds great. Good Luck
