I need an aux input-05 Expedition EB

I have an ’05 Expedition EB edition with a 6 disc in-dash cd changer which spits discs out—it’s crap; steering wheel controls; rear-seat dvd entertainment system (including rear-seat controls).
My problem….. I need an auxiliary input! I want my iPod to work with my stereo while still maintaining full use of my dvd system & rear-seat controls (I need my kids to be able to use the system via wireless/wired headphones in the backseat, while at the same time the adults can use the stereo in the front—which the factory system can do). I’ve been told that installing an iPod aux input won’t work with my truck (they’ll only work with this truck without the rear-seat entertainment system). I’d be willing to buy an aftermarket stereo with an aux input if it worked with the rear-seat controls, but I’ve been told this is impossible. I have even looked into the 2007/2008 EB edition stock stereos—some have the aux input—but Ford says it won’t work (physically the stereo will fit no problem, but the wiring is completely different from the ’05 and according to Ford there are no wiring harness adapters available to make the whole set-up work). The only solution anyone can come up with is to install a wired FM modulator with RCA plugs to the back of my stereo through the antenna plug-in. I would then have to connect my iPod to the modulator via an A/V cable & then the sound will come through my stereo on an FM channel. However, the sound quality isn’t going to be as good as it’s coming over a radio station. Currently I’m using the XtremeMac Roadshow A/V cable with dock connector (it’s 8’ long and the sound quality is awesome) but it’s messy looking to say the least—it goes from my over-head dvd player’s A/V inputs.. hangs down to my center console.. goes through my console from back to front.. and then up to my iPod which is mounted to my windshield. It’s ugly. There has to be a cleaner, easier solution without sacrificing sound quality, or my rear-seat entertainment system!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Have you tried a FM transmitter up front? They sell one that can plug into the 12vlt outlet and your ipod can sit in. No wires sits up front. I use a FM transmitter for my Sat. radio have no problems...I'd try this first before I started replaceing radios and spending big $$$

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I've tried a couple different FM transmitters (Griffin iTrip and one by Belkin) and neither of them performed very well in my truck... I'm assuming it's because the radio antenna is in the back window and it's just too far away. They both work great in my F150... but the antenna is a normal one upfront.

Did the Ford guys tell you that it would not work because the have tried it themselves? If you have the time you might want to give it a try and see for your self, compare the conectors, just a thought. My brother has a 99 f250 and i have an 01, my wife has 04 Expedition EB we just got, he has heard that most of the interior will fit from the 06 and 07's in ours. He just has not had the time and money to invest in trying it yet. Once again just a thought.

Thanks for the advice. The guy at Ford actually pulled up the wiring diagram for both the 05 and the 07/08 models and showed them to me. He said there was no way to swap them.. and no harness adapters available. I've been doing a bit of research and I think I can get away with purchasing a new head unit (with the aux/usb input) that is "Dual Zone" capable.. I just haven't received my income tax return back yet

Re: I need an aux input-05 Expedition EB

I just got a 2005 EB and I installed my Kenwood 6019 DVD player in it. I have the XM adapter and the IPOD adapter with it. My IPOD sits in the center console out of sight. Since the 6019 is a touch screen, I can scroll through play lists, artists, albums etc. Sounds great!

Crutchfield sells an ($20) adapter that allows the audio from the rear DVD player to play through the head unit.

I have the video out from the Kenwood until run to a cable in the center console also. I can plug this cable into the AUX in on the rear DVD and the DVD from the Kenwood will play in the front and back.

And last, this unit has a video input also. I have a video cable hooked up so I can play video from my IPOD and it will display on both screens.

Not a cheap unit, but I got mine from Crutchfield as a REFERB and saved a couple hundred bucks. The install in the 2005 is very easy and clean. Looks like a stock unit.

Re: I need an aux input-05 Expedition EB

also google: ipod intergration harness, ipod adaptors oem, or such...
There are lots out there...

just an FYI: check your your system harness first for number of pins...
if you need wiring pics just email mail me with your system configrations, such as cd changer, nav, with DVD, etc.
