leaking coolant

Hello all, need some help my 98 expedition has a odor coming out of the vent
turns out to be coolant leaking.
The coolant is not leaking inside of my exped.in a way i thought a damaged heater core would leak on the passenger side floor, the leak is out side at the rear of the engine compartment passenger side.Could it be the heater core or
something different going on,
