mad Navigator Misfire & Ball Joints

Hello all,
New to the site and I appreciate your advice. I have a 1999 Lincoln Navigator with 170,000 miles. In an instant, I had a rough idle and acceleration. Service Engine Light came on and had it read. It was a misfire in cyl 6. Immediately took it into the shop and now its been a nightmare.

Was told that cyl 1 was also misfiring. They claimed to have replaced plugs and coils and then proceeded to CALL ME to ask what the problem could be. They wanted to rip out the entire engine and whatnot ($600+). I have 0 experience with cars and was advised by someone else to suggested it may be a loss of compression. So they checked and I believe there is. They are giving me the run around, not sure I think they know what they are doing so I had them STOP touching it and will pick it up today.

They also claimed that my ball joints are EXTREMELY DANGEROUS and should have them replaced, even though I just had new tires and a suspension check and it all cleared.

I feel like I am getting robbed and that I am dealing with Mickey Mouse mechanics. Please help out. I just want a smooth ride again. Thanks much.
