Please help, should I buy an extended warranty

I recently purchased a 2003 Eddie Bauer Expedition 5.4 L with 70,000 miles. I can purchase a basic 4 year plan from Ford for about $2000 including tax ($100 deduct). Covers major things just not electric seats and electronics.

I would appreciate any feedback. Seems like so much money but I don't want to end up paying more in the long run.

Thank you!

Re: Please help, should I buy an extended warranty

That is exactly what I am afraid of!! The car looks and runs great now but who knows what is going to happen. Seems like a lot of money but I guess it is likely that it could end up being a lot more. Thanks for the input.

Re: Please help, should I buy an extended warranty

I would say get the warranty just to be safe, but also I'll let you know I have a 03 XLT with the 5.4L and I'm at 120,000 miles without doing anything but routine maintenance that was listed in the service manual. I have had this since it was new, and if you take care of these they won't have problems for a long time.

Re: Please help, should I buy an extended warranty

A little late to the party, but for anyone that stumbles upon this, up here in Canada, there's a company that's selling extended vehicle warranties through insurance brokerages. Given that most folks are afraid if the coverage they buy will actually be there when they need it, an insurance brokerage seems like about as trustworthy a source as you can expect. It's called High Road - Auto Warranty Canada, Extended Car Warranties | High Road Warranty
