Rattling Down Below.
Hi again,
Last week I took our 2001 Expedition in for an inspection, and was informed that it would not pass due to a bad tire Rod. After having it replaced, I noticed (the first time that I got on the expressway) that there was a rattling sound emanating from underneath the front end. After a few days, I was able to make a determination that this sound would only happen at higher speeds - such as on the expressway, or thruway, etc. I went back to Firestone, and had them check it out. They said that it was strange for the sound to play out just at higher speeds, and later assured me that all was tight, regarding the work that they had done. I explained that the sound absolutely did not start happening until after I had the tire rod replacement performed, and asked if it were possible that they had to loosen something, and forgotten to tighten it back up. 'No way at all' - was their response.
I did notice, after the fact, that there was a two-pin female connector dangling loosely underneath - just in front of the driver's side front tire. I thought that it, and wind drag, might have been the causative factor. But, after wedging it up into the undercarriage (not knowing, or being able to see what it connected to), I yet hear the rattling noise at the high speeds. Any thoughts?
