confused Really need some help on this......

Okay, here goes...I have a 1998 Expedition XLT 4x4, 4.6L, air ride suspension w/ 121,000 miles. CE light came on awhile back, had code read and gave #1 misfire. Any helpful advice on changing plugs and wires would be greatly appreciated as I've heard it can be tough. Also, lately, sometimes when driving down highway at about 55-65 mph, the engine seems to just bog down (doesn't lose mph and rpm's don't change...even when pressing acceleretor down further) it just stays at same speed until you release the accelerator for a second or two, then everything is fine for awhile. This is driving me crazy!! I've already changed the fuel filter and run a bottle of seafoam through the tank...no change.

Question 1: Can the acceleration issue be related to the misfire reading?

Question 2: Do I need to use anti-seize on the new plugs?

Question 3: Can anyone provide any further assistance for these problems?

Re: Really need some help on this......

I was seriously hoping that this forum would be as helpful, interactive and enjoyable as the Dodge Ram forum...apparently that is not the case...thanks, anyway.

Re: Really need some help on this......

i had the same problem with my 98. It seemed like it was the plugs or coils..until i had a buddy of mine look at it. I went to ford after he looked at it and had 2 of the injectors replaced..worked fine for about a month or so and it happened again...went back in and 2 more injectors had gone out on me. So far i have replaced 1, 3, 7, and 8. It is a common problem i have heard about 98's. My exped. had 199,500 miles on it with a 4.6 and runs like a dream. Usually when i hear about this problem i suspect it is the injectors. When mine started the symptoms were as follows:

Startup is fine, idle is rough.
30-40mph is fine but a little power lost.
60-70mph has some power loss and jerkyness.
Uphill is worse. Engine has low power and is jerky, likes to cut out intermittently.

This was driving me nuts. Check engine would come on and blink non stop till i stopped or turned my truck off. Hope this helps some.

Dustin

Sorry to see you feel that way about the forum....
You need to change your distributor cap, plugs and wires.
