Removing Navigator engine by lifting on intake manifold?

Does anybody know if the 2004 intake manifold will support the weight of the 5.4 DOHC engine when removing from the vehicle?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

No!, If there is not brackets already there, then you will need to make a L bracket and bolt it to the motor, but it must be a good strong bolt hole, I'm sure someone will tell you which hole on the block will be strong enough shortly.

This is what the service manual mentions about removing the engine. This is the last step..the steps prior to this is removing things like electical link, drain oil, ect.. if you want I can email a full pdf. step by step.
Remove the upper 2 transmission-to-engine

bolts and install the special tool #303-F047.

You don't need a "right" tool.

Find a LARGE bolt hole on either side of the engine. Go buy some high tensile strength bolts at your hardware store (usually black bolt). Buy some heavy duty chain. Bolt the chain to either side of engine block and LIFT!

In a perfect world where motor's slide out as easy as a hot knife though butter. You can do this^, but I wouldn't, go get the "right" tool and you will have it forever. Not saying your way won't work, but it's not the safest. Especially if you get the wrong bolts.

Visit Autozone, spend $30.00-$50.00 bucks, and be done. Or if you are confident enough to try his way, go ahead, just be careful.

Re: Removing Navigator engine by lifting on intake manifold?

I know this is an old thread but it is one of the few that address the same issues I'm having. I'm pulling a 5.4 out of my 04 Navigator and need some help with the top two tranny to engine bolts. If you still have the PDF available could you send it to me. I would greatly appreciate the assistance.

Doesn't the entire front doghouse have to be removed from a Navigator to remove the engine? I thought with how far back the engine sits, that there's no way it'll come out up through the hood opening?

Don't know much about the Navigator but I've done a few vans, Pulled grill, radiator, and bumper then out the front. Also found out it's easier wo pull a 300 6 if you remove the head firs, but brute force and ignorance prevailed.
