Stinkin Lincoln!

I joined this forum to find information about my '99 Navigator. It has recently begun to smell like engine coolant when we run the heater!

Is there any information out there about the heater core for this model? If the heater core has gone bad and begun to leak (as I suspect) I'm told by local Lincoln service that it's a very expensive fix!!!

Is there a Lincoln Forum I can/should access?

A repair manual will give you a good idea if you want to tackle it yourself. Last time I did one, dealer said $330.00 for labor plus the core. I did it myself in about 3 hrs. and I wasn't rushing the job at all. It was worth my time to save the money.

Re: Stinkin Lincoln!

Latest dealer service quotes put me closer to 8 - 14 shop hours ($70 - $95 per hour) and between $100 - $500 for the core. Also, I have a Chilton's shop manual which is medium-to-fairly vague on the (dashborad) dis-assembly steps. Are there online Ford shop manuals for Navigator that have more detail? Are there other after-market shop manuals which have more detail??

Re: Stinkin Lincoln!

You can purchase what's known as an FSM or Factory Service Manual from the dealer. Try to find a down-loadable version online if you can as the dealer charges around $80-100 for the manual. Think of getting the manual as paying for an hour of dealer labour charges!
