Need new fronts, but have been told conflicting things by my motorhead friends. One says I need a press, one says I don't, and one says I need to replace the entire control arm.

Any recommendations? I'd like to do it myself if it can be accomplished in less than a day.

You'll need to replace the whole upper control arm assembly. It's easier, fairly cheap, plus you will have new bushings. At RockAuto Auto Parts it will cost you a little over 100 bucks per side.
