98 F150 2WD 4.2L Rear drums lock for no reason - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

I have checked the drum assembly, replaced all drum parts within last year, bled the brake lines and still can not figure out what is wrong. I have consulted with three or four manuals and have scoured the net to no avail. The rear drivers side brake locks up for no reason. Can anyone help me?

Locks up immediately? The shoes could be on backwards. The lead shoe has less material on it.

No, they are on right, as I said the drum assembly is all correct, pads and all... any other suggestions?

Has the master or booster been replaced?
If so check the rod coming out of the booster, my 95 was .995 out from the mounting flang. Most manuals will have this in it. if it's sticking out to far it will hold the brakes on

it's a long shot..........

thanks I will check it tomorrow, but just replaced the master on tuesday. It may be it. Any other suggestions?

Does that have steel lines to each rear wheel? If it has rubber hoses, I have seen them deteriorate on the inside and stick.

I am pretty sure those are steel, so maybe you have a frozen wheel cylinder.
