AU brake fail light not working?

Can anyone with a AU please let me know if the brake fail light, a symbol with looks similar to ((!)) which is on the bottom left corner on your cluster does one of the following:

1) Illuminates with key in the ignition position, then switches off after a while before engine has been started.

2) Illuminates with key in the ignition position, then switches off only after the engine has been started.

3) Illuminates only when the engine is being started (ie: starter motor in operation).

I ask as I replaced all 4 pads on the w'end and the warning light stayed on at all times (when ignition switched on/driving) for about 48 hrs after, and now only illuminates only when the engine is being cranked over as in number 3) in the above list. I can't recall what it was doing before I changed the pads. Owners manual states that it should illuminate when ignition is switched on before the engine is started, but I can't recall this happening either, thanks in advance.

Re: AU brake fail light not working?

Number 3 in your list is correct mate - that's what mine does anyway. I have the same thing in my manual as you read in yours but that must just be outdated or an error I figure.

The brake fail light is based on a pressure switch in the master cylinder I think. When you change your pads you'd be pushing the fluid back up into the master cylinder so it wouldn't surprise me that this effected the sensor somehow but now the fluid level, pressure has settled back down after 48hrs, so I'd suggest you have nothing to worry about.

Just my thoughts anyway.

Steve.

Re: AU brake fail light not working?

Thanks guys. I thought there might be something wrong with the braking system, thanks again.
