Does anyone know if you can happily fit AU3 XR8 Suspension Springs into an AU1 Fairmont?

If your fairmont is an IRS, it should be fine. I would use springs and shocks to be safe.

The XR8 has the sports IRS suspension option, the shocks may(?) have a different stroke/bump stop.

If it has IRS, then the springs should fit. There's between 25 and 40mm difference in the ride height of an AU3 XR and an AU1 anything, so be careful with the shocks. The springs on the AU3 are roughly equivalent to King Lows, so they should be OK with the standard shocks - test it and see. If the ride's no good, just put lowered shocks in.
