I've had a clunk, thump noise in the front of my BA XT since new. It has now done 43,000kms. It doesn't seem to affect the car's handling at all. The noise, quite loud, is a series of clunks when reversing with some lock on the steering wheel. I have also noticed it when going up or down gutters (sorry driveways), and when pulling up suddenly.
A service is coming up at 45,000kms and I am reporting it for the umpteen time - I just need some suggestions. Should I ask for the foreman? (There must be a different term these days)
Is anyone familiar with this noise? The steering rack has been mentioned to me, and they have done something to it a couple of times, I think; but the noise is still there!
Otherwise it is a very nice car.

make sure all the steering rack bolts are nice and tight

i got a guy from pedders opinion on mine and he quoted me $1500 for a new rack as he said it was stuffed (didnt even look under the car!)

took the car to the usual suspension place i go to as he doesnt talk sh!t and he charged me $10 to put it up on the ramps and tighten all the bolts underneath - noise gone!
