Anyone noticed a problem with the rear brakes on their BA? I keep noticing a slight smell of burnt brakes coming from the rear everytime i get out of the car. I did notice yesterday when driving slowly with the window open a regular on-off-on-off rubbing sound, it sounds like something was rubbing in the rear end. The sound obviously increases in speed as the car speeds up. The handbrake seems fine, the lever comes up fairly high to engage, and the car will roll forward or back as soon as i start to disengage it.
Anybody else had this problem.??

no rubbing noises on my XT(brakes the same?) but did get definite smell from rear up to at least 3K Km. Same as yours, had no trouble pushing car backwards and forwards so brakes were releasing OK.
barryh
The "on-off-on-off rubbing sound" sounds very much like the traditional no cost option installed on many falcons and commodores of all descriptions. My VY wagon did it intermittently for over 3 years.
Not entirely sure what it is but it's not the brakes sticking.
I saw a brand spanking VY S get delivered to a dealer a few weeks back and as they drove it to the holding yard, you guessed it - squelch, squelch, squelch........
DK,
Was the noise there first thing in the morning or after it had been driven?(even a short distance)Also how far did you say your hand brake lever comes up?(count the clicks)

I had this exact problem - AusXH noticed it while we were in Mexico for the FPV weekend.
When the car went in to have the front brakes machined at 8000km, dealer adjusted handbrake (it was dragging on the rears just slightly) and the noise was gone.

Cool, thanks guys. Now that i think about it, when i forst got the car the hand brake wasn't working so i got ford to adjust it. May be overtight. Only just started noticing the smell, the car has travelled 8000kms. THe noise only seems to be noticebale once the car has been driven a short distance.
