Does anyone know whether the 18" XR8 rims would be sufficiently load rated for a Territory. I know they'll fit and I know what size tyres I need to mainatain the same overall diameter, but am a little concerned about the load rating of the rims. There's only some 200 kg weight difference and I would have thought that given the considerable extra speed of the XR8 over the Territory (and the proportional increase in load as speed rises) that the load rating of the rims would be similar for the heavier but slower Territory. Bear in mind the vehicle won't be air born or used for cross country adventures with these rims.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

You have my views on this in the pm I sent you.

However, after reading this post I decided to go see what was on the Tyre Placard of the department XT Falcon and also my Territory thinking that may give some indication of their respective load ratings. Tyres and wheels having a close relationship in the scheme of things.

They state that tyres fitted to these vehicles must comply with;

600kg or 90 load index (XT Falcon - base model)
850kg or 102 load index (TS Territory - AWD - 7 seater)

Anyone know if the other Falcon models are different?
V8 models XR, GT, GTP?

Trouble is, it's easy to find out load ratings on tyres but not so easy for wheels.

Other Falcons wouldn't be much different, maybe up to 94 index

Tezza rims have a higher load rating than BA or AU Falcon rims. Rims load ratings are expressed in kg as well, so there are no codes to look out for.

Aftermarket wheels with the right load rating probably wouldn't be hard to come by, but the tyres would be a bit of an issue. Also, it'll be a lot easier to get away with non-load rated rims than tyres. I mean, if a wheel's good enough to support XR8's heft, the Tezza should be fine as well. However, there aren't too many 102+ rated 18" tyres.

You'd need 255/50R18 tyres btw.

One thing you need to remember if you fit a wheel that is not load rated to suit the vehicle then chances are if you ever have an insurance claim it will be rejected because of the incorrect wheel fitment.
The ROH R/T wheel is load rated to suit the Territory.
