Hello! I have a 2003 Ford Escape, three weeks old, 600 miles.
When I drive, for the first 5 to 10 minutes, when I apply the brakes, they make a "groan" sound. This noise is more noticeable if I make an abrupt stop. It is the same sound that a car makes when you let it creep forward with your foot slightly on the brakes.
After 5 to 10 minutes of driving and applying the brakes they are quiet.

I need an unbiased opinion since the dealer tells me this noise is normal.

First of all, take it to a reputable Ford servicing dealer - yes they aren't all reputable. I'd get 3 different dealer's ideas first without suggesting anything to them - let them work it out!!

If you have no more luck, ask them to machine the discs for you - it is the pads vibrating against the discs slightly - if the machining doesn't fix the problem, swap over to different pad material. Apparently Bendix make a "4WD" brake pad.
