I have a 93 Ford Probe with a burned out brake light bulb. This is NOT the high mounted third brake light. How the heck to get at the bulb to change it. The lense does not appear to be removable and there is no access panel inside the car (that I can see).

I would appreciate anyone's help on this. I have checked the owners manual and it only lists the bulb type and offers no information on accessing the bulb to change it.

There is a small panel on the top of the brakelights. Take that off and you should see three screws (these may be on the panel itself, I can't remember.). Unscrew those screws. Next place your hand on the side of the light that is closest to the license plate. Push the light out twoard the side of the car. It should pop right off. The only thing (other than the 3 screws) that are holding the light on are a few body clips.

And with that, you now should have the light off and replace the bulbs.

There is a black panel that sits on top of the lamp assembly with a (single) screw I think. I removed the screw but it appeared that there were clips holding it in place. I didn't want to possibly break the plastic piece. Now that I know that I can gain access through this panel I will play with it more.

You're right, it is a single screw. I just looked. (so I'm lazy and didn't go outside before....)

You probably can't get in there and reach the sockets, so you would just have to pop it (the lense) off. Don't worry aboot breaking the clips, as it was intended that the bulbs be replaced this way.

Dalma, Ive taken off my tail lights various times before and Ive never broken any clips. Ive pounded pretty hard on the lights too...they are strong suckers. I know the first time I tried to remove the lights I was nervous about breaking something...just be a bit agressive and youll be fine.

Thanks I will get aggressive with it. It has been burned out now for a couple months and I have had a replacement bulb for most of that time. Thanks a ton!

yeah just remove the one screw, take off the panel and slide the tailights outwards to get the off then replace the brake light 1156 bulb

I might be more carefull when I put them back in though. Just slamming them against the clips is bound to crack the plastic. Just make sure you like it up before whamming it in there.

Good point. Putting them back on takes a bit more of a gentle hand. Just line up everything and give a slight push. Dont pound.
