Brake Light Problem

I am seriously scratching my head on this one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1999 F-150 ext cab 4x4. A buddy of mine noticed that the 2 rear brake lights were not working the other night. He said that the cab light was working. I can't seem to figure out what the #$!# is the problem. It doesn't really make sense because the backup lights and the parking lights work so that rules out some of the following but I checked them anyway

1. Fuses. all were good.

2. Brake light switch. Good.

3. Light bulbs. good.

4. continuity through the light socket. good.

Thanks for any help.

Thumbs up Similar problem encountered

I encountered a similar problem with my 350. After several hours of metering the system and tracing the wiring harness to various locations I found the mini fuse box. Ford has gone to a secondary fuse panel (Power Distribution Box) that is located under the hood, drivers side attached to the firewall. I replaced then #3 7.5A fuse and resoolved my issues. Hope this helps.

And there is the problem of not having a good ground. I'll bet you checked for positive voltage, did you check for a ground?
