Hi all,
I went to the Tyre place today to get some tyres put on my XY (14x7 and 14x8 12slotters) and that went all ok.

But the real trouble came when i went to get a wheel alignment done, i need a new idler arm, 4 new balljoints (left and right, upper and lower) and new Shackle bushes. Fun eh?

Anyway, i thought that i may aswell upgrade the brakes while im at it, as if i do it later the wheel alignment is going to get put out. So my question is, what do i need to upgrade my Falcon to disc brake front end.

I have a XY out the back with disc's on it, so i can just change the whole stub axle... but what else do i need?

Hey Dale!

Basically just rip out the whole disk brake system from the donor vehicle and bolt it in yours. This means the master cylinder, booster, bracket, lines, calipers, stub axles and disks. Don't forget the vacuum line to the booster.

Good idea to check out the master cylinder and get a kit put through. Also check disks and pads for wear and runout - new disks are pretty cheap. Well, the stock ones anyway! You can also use stub axles, disks and calipers from later models (up to XF) as well.

Thanks heaps, thats what i needed to know. The thing is that there isnt much left of the donor car, it ws just a rolling shell when i picked it up. So im going to have to hunt up a master cylinder, brake booster and everything.

I was told that some the disc brake versions used a smaller / different shaped brake pedal too.. can anyone confirm this?

Im going out to Dad's tonight to do the rear shackle bushes, then ive just gotta do the idler arm, and balljoints!

Make sure when you grab the master cylinder and booster that you grab the bracket between the booster and the firewall as these are nearly impossible to find. Best bet is to find someone who is wrecking one (also check ZC-ZD Fairlanes).

AFAIK, there was no difference in the brake pedal size or pedal box between drum and disc brake versions.

Awesome, but i think ill have to put this upgrade (along with all the rest) on the back burner, i might just collect some parts if i can. I know where there is a bracket, but i last time i tried to get the thing off it wouldnt move. Looks like ill be investing in a can or two of WD-40.
