Drums wont go on

Hey guys and girls,
I needed new linings on the rear of my TC cortina, so i took the old ones to a local brake place and got them to change them over and get the drums machined to get rid of the lip and the curve in them.

Now ive put the linings back on, and it all looks good but i cant get either of the drums to go back on. The adjuster is adjusted all the way in, so much so that i can see the thread on both sides of the moving part (the nut looking thing).

When i removed them, the drivers side came off easily, but the passenger side took some more working to get off, i assumed this was because of the lip on the drums.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this, and how i get the damn things back on! Any help would be greatly appreciated, as i have to have this done by Monday.

Re: Drums wont go on

i hate drum brakes for a start!
all i can remember(had this problem too) is that you can move shoes up and down a little while they are in position and make sure they are hard against the parts they are pushed with and make sure (hope you made a typo) the adjuster is screwed all the way in, to double check make it at its shortest which is wher you will want to start
give that a go for starters, remember where every thing came from?

Re: Drums wont go on

Fortunately i did remember where everything came from. Ill try moving the linings around and see if that helps. Its bloody hot today, so thats not making things easier! i hate hot weather, i lose my temper way too easily. The corty already has 1 extra dint in it now..

Thanks, you'll hear from me soon i guess!

Re: Drums wont go on

I hate drums too now, especially drivers side ones. Ive been stuffing around with it for about 45 minutes, so i said f*#% this, ill try the other one. Tapped the linings twice and it popped on.

How the hell that can work, ive done everythign i can think of to the drivers side, ive emery papered the sides of the linings so they're not sharp, ive put them in every concievable position i can think of. the only thing that i havent done is put grease on the f*#&ing linings to get them to slide on easier.

Any more idea's... i'll seriously pay someone to come and do it for me if i havent got it done by 3.

i'm in geelong too and yeah just turned air con on in lounge, GTA san andreas may get a look in today as might 2kill bill DVDs no to mention ford forums.
you wont catch me here tommorow as i'm going dirt bike riding if its not raining or too hot

don't put grease on them it wont help anyway. check the adjuster is fitting the shoe make sure its as small as possible, place drum as close as you can get to line up with wheel studs and position shoes properly.
have a rest/ coffee and have another go

Re: Drums wont go on

Yer im just browsing the forums, checking out ebay etc... im gunna have another go at 1. so ive got 2 minutes to nut this thing out.

i think its going to be about the same tomorrow for your dirt bike riding. Im off to Melbourne tonight to check out the comedy club, i got tickets at Sexpo. So im hoping that will be good. Then tomorrow im off to check out a XY wagon that came down from the top of SA a year or so ago... so if its any good ill be goin halves with a mate, he wants the front off it (guards, bonnet, girlle, front doors, bumper etc) and i'll have the rest as its really unusable to him being a wagon.. From the top of SA it shouldnt have any rust in it, so it'll be a better starting point than mine. Ill be sad to see mine go though...

Re: Drums wont go on

5 dints in the LH/R guard is enough for 1 day. ANYONE who can come and put it all back together for me will have an extra $20 in their wallet afterwards. I pulled the assembly apart thinking i might have had soemthing in the wrong place, and now i cant even get that back together.

The wagon i want to put an injected 8 in, the 250 2v will be going in the corty.

where are these dents coming from? i'm not confident touching drums anymore and on a hot day $20 would be lucky to etise me to get into the car and even then it would only be to buy some BEER.
i wouldn't take you're money anyway but if i thought it was something i could help with i would come over, could it bee that the new shoes are a bit thicker than standard?(just a thought verify before getting any ideas, but mabe if its less than 1 mm you are talking about not fitting by it could be the case?)

Re: Drums wont go on

I dunno where the dints are coming from, but my knuckles seem to be getting a bit red and lumpy? maybe its an allergic reaction from the bearing grease.

I cant see the that it would be the new linings as the passenger side went on without a problem.. Ive got the majority of a 6 pack of heineken here if its any help.. .
