What is the standard type of suspension on the e series sedans? What type is the optional independant type (if there is such an option...)

No independant option im sure on E-series. The standard type has 4 trailing arms live axle, coil springs and a watts linkage

Yes, the live axle carried over & there was a double wishbone IRS optional which mounted on a subframe. Initially I don’t think they ran a rear sway bar, but put one on later. It was standard on the LWB cars, Fairmont Ghia, XR8 and XR6 VCT, and optional on the other models. I think if you got the IRS you couldn’t get dual fuel (pre straight gas cars). The IRS did get good reviews, but adds approx 70kg weight.
