EB/ED ABS not working???

i've seen this mentioned before, but anyone who's had their abs fail either intermittently by falsing a lockup, or just where the 'check abs' light comes on, then maybe you want your abs back??

so far i've traced it to what looks like it could be common problem(even tho i've seen it only on my car) where the wire for the front sensors run down besisde the exhaust manifolds on either side(of a v8, or i guess just one side for the 6). thing is, the wire doesnt like the extreme heat put off by the manifolds and well... kind of perishes.

there is also a plastic clip that holds the wire against the inner panel but on the left front sensor on my car this had come out and it seems the wire hitting the extractor kind of melted the plug, and likely has damaged the wire somewhere above that.

so far i've removed the sensor altogether and the abs light comes on a few seconds after starting the car(self check) instead of falsing at intersections and taking my brakes away. i'm going to look at rewiring the two front sensors, and covering them in a decent sheath for protection from the extractors(or re routing the wire). i'll have a chat to auto leccys to find out a good wire/wire protector and let yas all know.

(maybe if theres enough folk with the same 'hot wire' abs fault this could go in as a tech article, written by someone more talented than myself)

Re: EB/ED ABS not working???

Mate i had a similar rpoblem a few years ago, i just took the Light bulb out of the dash, the ABS doesnt work any more, which doesnt really worry me, but the light coming on is no longer a real problem.
I know what the problem is but just havne fixed it.
It is a fault with the drivers side/exaust side, wheel sensor.

Re: EB/ED ABS not working???

I suspect I've just had the same problem (weird coincidence).

Looks like the sensor plug has popped off, and been destroyed by touching the extractors (is currently a molten mess).
Interestingly, I *haven't* been getting a light (maybe a blown bulb - haven't checked instruments at startup yet).

Some amusement for this weekend I guess (although I suspect finding a replacement plug is going to suck).
