theres an adjuster underneath about 1/2 way along the car on the drivers side, you'll see a linkage pulled back by a spring, Do up the nut (12mm) and you should be right.
You should be able to reach without jacking the car up..

You shouldnt have to adjust the handbrake when you change the pads.
Your front cable may be stretched.

Get a new one, not a second hand one. New one should only be around $40 mark! The manual gives a good description of how to adjust them up.

Yeah the Front cable is pretty easy to change, shoul d take you under an hour.
Mine cost me around $40.
