Hi all,

Does anybody have any recommendations as to what kind of things are out there for a brake upgrade for an EF?

Some people use dba slotted and say there good, what other things are there? Has anyone changed callipers? or just keep the originals?

dba slotted with bendex ultimate pads will do the trick for you, thats my plain all round, might even go one step further n get the cross drilled n slotted ones. not so many holes in that so wonder if it still has stress fractures, if so, wont get the cross drilled n slotted... just the slotted version

but they cost $190 EACH for the rotor, then the cost of fitting, thankfully im getting them at cost :)

what do u mean about that? do u have to have different equipment if u have abs??? :eek:o1:
Yes, ABS discs have a 'tone' wheel on the inside of them.
So if you have ABS make you specify the propers ones when buying new discs.

The DBA Slotted / Bendix Ultimate route has worked a treat for my EL Wagon.

It cops a bit of a flogging thanks to towing our ski boat up and down the mountains around Tumut and Khancoban (steep). The original pads fried, Bendix Performax did the same and warped a set of rotors, then a chat with the people at DBA suggested that because of the operating temps the only pad (in their range) to use was the Ultimate. I only managed to get 20,000 out of the fronts and they spew out black soot constantly but damm they work well. I ended up changing the EA S over to them as well.

Look around for the rotors and pads - about $90 to $100 each for the rotor and $79 for the front pads, $75 for the rear. Bearings dont cost much so you might like to chuck in a kit while you change them over. I did mine myself - the main trap being that you must torque up the bearings in a specific fashion with a torque wrench or you will end up with DTV (disc thickness variation).

I had considered a caliper upgrade put since running the Ultimates, rotors and decent fluid it hasn't been an issue. I thought fade might still be a problem but the hotter these pads get the better they seem to bite. I'm sure they have a limit but it suits my use perfectly. The EA isnt up to the standard of the EL but I think the rotors are smaller.

Quick story - had the EL in to **** Ford for a service recently. They asked me if it was ok to change Pads or Belts if it needed it. I said "dont touch the pads, otherwise OK". They rang me at 4pm to say that the car was ready and that they had to put a set of front pads in it - stock Ford ones. When I told them that I wanted Bendix Ultimates they suggested that they were too savage on rotors and I shouldn't use them. I suggested that with 1200kg of ski boat and 1700kg of car down a hill, I was more worried about stopping than saving the life of rotors. They happily changed the pads and refunded me the labour. I had to buy the pads and deliver them though. What did surprise me was that they wern't concerned about the mismatch with the rear pads. Maybe they just didn't realise what was running in it.

Have a look at www.discpads.com.au.

Regards - Pat.
