Hey all, got a big problem with my newly aquired XR. The following things i have noticed after dring it for the past month or so..

1- The steering seems really stiff for an EF (i still think my Xf had a easier turn) . When steering into tighter corners etc. It makes a whine noise or something. Not squeeling or anything just a small whine noise . Its probally sounds like the typical power steering noise really.

"It has been lowered as its got the factory Tickford lowered suspension shocks, springs etc. etc."

2- when ever i drive upto 110 or close to it the steering shakes like a bitch and gets really rough to drive. (very uncomfortable to drive around that speed).

3- the same happens when you ease off the throttle too (same speed)

4- the damn thing wont drive straight either, you veer off to the left just about straight away!

It has been checked out i got a balance and wheel allignment was alrite for about 2 weeks now its just shit again.

Sorry for the long post but i really need some sort of idea about what might be going on with it..

i suggest you go and do a wheel alignment and balance at a reputable tyre place, if you don't after you get it done get under the car and tighten the tie rod ends! those bastards leave them a bit loose so as soon as you get up a few driveways you need to go and give them more business, its an old trick. Same things for wheel balance, the cheap countersinkers fall out (or whatever they are called). I think a wheel alignment and ballance under 70$ is shit and done in a hurry whitout touching/putting in shims

Okay cool, thanks for that. Would that be the solution to all of the problems thou. Ive had it balanced and alligned b4 but about 20-30 days later its still doing it! Cant really get too pissed about it thou only cost me about $40 to get it done down here.

I was going to sugest your powersteering fluid but if you had a alignment and balance and it got rid of the problem that probally isnt it. Unless they topped it up and your power steering is leaking

Ive topped up my Power steering fluid once since ive had it, filled it to the full line and it has hardly dropped since i did that 3 months ago.. When i had the XR for about 4 weeks i took it in to get looked at they told me that they assumed that it had never been balanced since it had been first owned.

Because it took them a while to get it right, drove it around for a week it was fine went back to them they inspected it again and said yep it seems to be fine now. Few more weeks after that and now its shit again.

So i got no bloody idea, i might take it to a different place this time..

some times when they do a wheel alighment on e series cars the will actually use a porta power to shift the front crossmember slightly to allign the front end, if they havnt retorqued the bolts it could be moving on you which will also cause headaches.
