One thing you would need to check is if the intermidiate shafts are swappable. The reason I say this is because you MAY need the later rack. The early racks have a coarse spline on the valve at the rack and the later ones have a fine spline. So it the intermidiate shafts have the same spline then your laughing use your rack and intermidiate shaft and then the later steering column
I haven't read the post but I can tell you that the main difference is on the flange bit that connects to the firewall. It has some studs on it so you can put some nuts on from the engine bay side of the firewall and then bolt it in from under the dash if you know what I mean. They probably did that to make mounting it easier in the factory.
Ah... the intermediate shaft is differnt in an EA to an EF.
Rmyers had to basically put the whole EF steering system in his EA to enable the use of the EF steering column.
We even tried pulling the whole lot apart and swapping stuff

Exactly right, you will need to do put in an EF steering rack aswell if you plan to do the EF steering column as the intermediate shafts aren't interchangable. You will also need to make two new holes in the fire wall were the column bolts in. Not overly difficult if your prepared to change steering racks...
