Been driving around for a year winging about how ordinary my brakes are, even after having rotrs machine three times and hi-po pads being installed, still shithouse.
Had a brake specialist go over them and the following is found:
- Both front calipers seized
- Both front rotors undersized and causing drag
- Cheap brake pads all round? What happend to my Performax I don't know...
- The rubbing of the cheap pads is causing them to overheat thus making any braking ability left pretty shithouse.
Looking at $477 for the lot, but my trusting mechanic is doing the same thing for $390 so all up $400 big ones to restore her to safe driving standards.
Thats replacing the Rotors with Standard ones not Slotted/drilled which we all know do nothing at this level of street brakes.
At least I can expect something to happen now. Woohoo.
Re: Finally, someone that can tell me my brakes are stuffed
if it were mine, I'd go slotted. Cross Drilled are a waste of time on the street, but of the cars i have driven with slotted rotors (namely a EF and EL ex-chaser) the braking performance with slotted rotors and decent pads surprised me no end.
If the brakes on the EL werent brand new I'd be buying some tomorrow.
Re: Finally, someone that can tell me my brakes are stuffed
Well getting your discs machined three times is reason enough for your car to have poor braking. You shouldn't have your discs machines any more than once.
It must be an EA thing, no matter what I do to my brakes, the pedal stills feels spongy and responseless.
I've got brand new DBA roters, new brake master cylinder, new front and rear calipers, Bendix brake pads, airated the brakes a million times.. still shit. Ah well..
Re: Finally, someone that can tell me my brakes are stuffed
Hay I know this is not the place to be putting this but if anyone is interested in 2 calipers, spindles, rotors I have a pair that I want to get rid of at a nice price. I updated to the EL GT set up with 330mm rotors & twin piston calipers......
