heres the problem i went out today and got a hand brake cable for the ute i came home to fit it and found theres no brackets under the drivers floor where the hand brake cable is spose to join to the lever that pulles the main cable not lever or backet for the lever too. what i need to know is how the **** is the hand brake spose to work has any one came across this before ? im staring to think my only option is to cut the brackets off the wreck and mig them on to my ute but i dont realy want to do that. any ideas? i will get pics tomomrow so yall have some idea what im on about but its got me ****ed on a good note i finaly found a good booster and brake pipes that havent been bent by careless mechanics

I'm not sure exactly what you mean...but I've heard that XW and XY had different handbrake set-up's...not sure if this is true , or relevant to your situation.

my ute in 9th month 70 i have 3 wrecks all 70 or 71 models and all have the same setup except mine its hard to explain but i will have pics tomomrow and it will all be clear a mate said it may have the same setup as an xr or xt his comeing to look tomomrow last thing i want to do is weld bits on and stuff about

XR to XW had the bracket mounted on the gearbox crossmember. XY went to a bracket mounted on the rail which holds the crossmember.

well that makes sence then so my ute is not an xy its xw but the other ute i have for spares is the same year but with the new setup or did the last of xw and the first of xy come in the same year? i havent got the right xmember so i think i might just bite the bullet and change the brackets to my rail thay look like there just spot welded on. but the other brackets for the rear cable will also be diffrant

The XW to XY changeover occurred in Nov 1970, so it is possible that the last of the XW's had the later setup. Not sure if these are any use, but I've attempted to attach some pics of the later setup from a ZD Fairlane (I was going to use this setup as I had a lot of hassle finding asuitable crossmember!) Hope they work!

Hmmm, looks like they didn't work. Damn I hate being a computer numpty! :-(

Anyway, it's probably more use if I take a pic of the XR-XT crossmember and send it straight through to you - if you reckon it's of use!

mallan@webone.com.au send away if i can get xr/xt cross member and cables ect ect then i wont have to weld on extra bits . my mate said theres an xr in gundagai being wrecked that has what i need but its a 2 hour drive and he said he wants top dollor for every nut and bolt

lolol Maybe there's a high demand for XR bits that way! I'll charge up the camera and get a happy snap tonight. I'll keep an ear to the ground here in Melb too re a crossmember - never know what may show up!
