Hi

To start, I have a EA falcon with which the handbrake mechanism on the drivers side calliper does not release when you release the handbrake from inside the cabin.

I pulled the wheel off and had a good look around, the handbrake cable is loose when the handbrake is off but the mechanism does not come back with the spring. The spring is not broken on the mechanism. It looks like the problem is within the mechanism itself as I require a hammer to loosen the grip it has on the disk, and is impossible to move with my hands.

The Haynes manual does not go into the overhaul of the rear calliper, Is the mechanism easy to pull apart/put together? I am guessing that either something is broken or some gunk needs to be removed for the mechanism to be freed up.

Not using that style of hand brake for some time can make them seize up inside, and not want to release.

If I had a dollar for every falcon handbrake assembly seized up, jeez.

you need to pull apart the caliper. clean up all the parts. buy a kit from bursons or repco (bout $12@ i think). and keep using the handbrake.
