I had all 4 brakes replaced a couple of weeks ago. Now the left rear brake knocks loudly when I apply the brakes. Even if I'm just cruising through a parking lot it still does it. The mechanic that replaced them says that I have a bent rim and an uneven tire that is causing this. I find that hard to believe though. If the tire and rim were the problem, wouldn't it feel uneven and make the noise all the time? Before I got the new brakes the car drove just fine. Please Help!

if you can not feel the car shake in the back end then its not your rim. you can just look at the tire to see if the tread is wearing uneven.

um, do you have enough brake fluid? have you changed it recently?

and are the rear brakes on your car Drums or Discs? that could help me figure it out.

I have drums, he also refinished the rotors and drums. Side note, I had the tires rotated yesterday. The noise stayed in the rear area. I don't think we have changed the brake fluid recently. But if that was the cause wouldn't more of the wheels be knocking too?

no, it would start at the wheels farthest from the brake fluid container, which i believe would be that wheel. so i think thatll solve your problem, if not, let me know.

Finally got the problem fixed. Believe it or not, it was a pair of bad brake shoes. This mechanic was on a mission to find the problem. He even got in my trunk while I drove and applied the brakes. Three and a half hours later he decided to just replace the shoes and puff... noise all gone! Unbelievable!!!

hey glad you got it fixed, i never wouldve though tof that. hmh, ill keep that one in mind next time someone thas this problem.
