I put some new tyres on the AU XR8 about 2 months back, ever since then, i have had this knocking/rattling sound when you go over a pot hole, coming from the rear passenger side, and it sounded like shocks to me. I had 2 opinions from suspension mobs in town, and they said it sounded like shocks too. So i pulled out the shocks, and they were nackered. So i put some bilsteins in, the ride is HEAPS better, but that knocking sound is still coming from the back left end, any ideas guys ?????
XR8fella, I had the same at only 11,000k's and its happening again at 40,000k's.
Its your top bearing plate which mounts to your chassis and the strut. The rubber insulator lets go/splits and causes knocks.
I'm surprised who ever put your Bilstein's in did not inspect/ notice this as they have to take these off to replace the struts.
Mmmmm labour again
Cheers
Maurice

bluedriver, thanks alot for that mate, i had a chat to the guys, and it sounds to be it. They reason dfor not picking it up was .
I shook my head !
thanks again champ !
I have just had the rear suspension bushes changed in my XR6 at my local Ford Dealer.
It took 2 goes for them to get it right.
The first diagnosis was that it was a "D" bolt hanging off the towbar. After pissing myself laughing in the guys face and calling him and his technician mate complete morons, I took the car 3 km's up the road, turned around and took it straight back.
Unfortunately, the first 2 imbeciles had left for the day. So I asked for another technician to go for a ride in the passanger seat. I went over the first speed hump in the car yard and he picked the problem staright away.
Moral to the story - you can't put brains in statues.
