confused Loud rubbing sound coming from steering rack

Hi all
First post on here so a good chance for me to say 'Hello' to you all ....with a question!
I hope I'm in the right area for this!!!
I've an Escort, oldish.on a 95 plate 1300 engine.I have a loud rubbing sound coming from my steering rack, especially loud when cold and tends to die down a little when its warmed up a bit. This also occurs when stationary, just turning the steering wheel left to right.
Any ideas on what this might be,is it dangerous and will it be an exensive fix..?
Many thanks for your time
Regards
Peter.

Re: Loud rubbing sound coming from steering rack

Hmmm lots of things???
Check the boots over steering rack and that there is grease in there, a cable tie holds them in place..
Check rubber mounts that hold rack to X member..
Check ball joints
Check steering cloumn and universal rubber..
You sure its not the horn contacts rubbing in steering wheel??
Or plastic cover under steering wheel rubbing ???

Welcome to forums..Peter..
